How to Prepare for the August 22, 2026 SAT

3 min read

The August 22 SAT is one of the first opportunities for students to improve their scores before college application deadlines begin to approach. The weeks leading up to the exam are an important time to prepare strategically.

Instead of trying to relearn every concept you've studied over the past several years, focus on strengthening your weaknesses, reinforcing your strengths, and building confidence before test day.

Take a Full-Length Practice Test

One of the best ways to begin preparing is by taking a full-length practice SAT under realistic testing conditions. This will show you which areas need the most attention and help you become comfortable with the exam's pacing.

After reviewing your results, look for patterns. Are you missing algebra questions? Struggling with reading comprehension? Making simple mistakes because you're rushing? Knowing where you're losing points allows you to study much more effectively.

Focus on Your Weakest Areas

It's tempting to review everything, but your study time is much more valuable when it's focused on the topics that need the most improvement.

If algebra word problems are giving you trouble, spend time practicing those. If grammar questions are costing you points, review punctuation and sentence structure. Small improvements in weaker areas can lead to meaningful score increases.

Practice With the Digital SAT Format

The SAT is administered digitally, so it's important to practice in the same format you'll use on test day. Become familiar with navigating the exam, answering questions on a computer, and using the built in Desmos graphing calculator for the math section.

The more comfortable you are with the testing platform, the more you can focus on the questions instead of the technology.

Review Mistakes Instead of Just Taking More Tests

Practice tests are valuable, but they only help if you understand why you missed each question.

After every practice session, spend time reviewing your incorrect answers. Figure out whether you misunderstood the concept, rushed through the question, or made a simple calculation error. Learning from your mistakes is one of the fastest ways to improve.

Don't Neglect Reading and Writing

Many students spend most of their preparation on math, but the Reading and Writing section carries equal weight.

Continue practicing reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary in context, and editing questions. Consistent practice in both sections will give you the best opportunity to maximize your overall score.

Take Care of Yourself Before Test Day

Your preparation isn't limited to studying. Getting enough sleep, eating balanced meals, and managing stress can have a real impact on your performance.

Avoid cramming the night before the exam. Instead, do a light review, gather everything you'll need for test day, and give yourself time to relax. Walking into the testing center feeling rested and confident is often more beneficial than squeezing in one last study session.

Remember That One Test Doesn't Define You

The SAT is an important exam, but it is only one part of your college application. Do your best, trust your preparation, and don't let a difficult question shake your confidence. Stay focused, manage your time, and move on if you get stuck. Every question is an opportunity to earn another point.
